What is Hedgelings?

Hedgelings is the creation of Danny and Marla. The goal is to make it an actual television series. Our hope is to get people to love our project and our characters as much as we do!

Hedgelings: Core Concept

Four people are abducted by Fae and dragged to their home realm to participate in a twisted game of the Fae’s design. While in this realm, the memories of the lives they left behind are stripped away as they go through both terrifying and striking metamorphoses in mind, body, and soul. With the fear of the game looming over them, and their memories of home beginning to return, these altered people must find a way to escape, and a way to pick up the pieces of their human lives

I like to refer to myself as “the fine details specialist”. Where Danny is the big plot ideas, my job is to fill in the the little ones and the execution, from script writing (which Danny and I share responsibility of) to coming up with details such as how we are going to do certain special effects.

My background is a creative one. I have been writing and telling stories for as long as I can remember, but my creative talents go all across the board. I am a jeweler by trade, and one thing many people don’t know about jewelers it that we are one of the most resourceful types of people in the world, constantly having to bend everyday tools and objects to fit our needs, so this kind of work comes naturally to me. As we have been coming up with plots and settings, I have been careful to never push the idea aside because it would be “too hard to do”. I sleep on it, and come up with a plan, and so far very little is leaving us permanently stumped. As we film, you will even see the jewelry I create pop up on characters, which is an awesome homage to my everyday life. If you stick with us through our crowdfunding, you will even get the chance to have a jewelry piece of my creation!

Hedgelings has given me a wonderful burst of creativity, one that I have been lacking but longing for for quite some time. When this started off as a game, I had been playing Dungeons and Dragons for years with various friends; then Danny had suggested playing this game called Changeling. I had no idea what that story would mean to me at first, but as we kept playing, I kept finding myself thinking about how amazing this would play out on screen. (Danny is truly a marvelous story teller.) I mentioned it several times to him and got and “yeah it would be cool", but it wasn’t until he had come to visit me one night that I was able to show him how absolutely serious I was about it. I don’t remember the exact wording, but I do remember how excited I was telling him that Are You Satisfied by Marina and the Diamonds would be the opening montage’s song, the one to introduce all the characters, and how *characters and plots redacted because they are a surprise* would be amazing as teasers and I would do xyz with them. I don’t remember what Danny had come over for that night, but that night we pushed it aside and stayed up until probably about 1 am planning our show.

Since then, we have been going non-stop, writing scripts, coming up with plotlines, making custom music, planning special effects, budgeting, and even background ideas, which you will see start to creep up online. Our characters are our children now. We have laughed and even cried over them and their imaginary lives, and even dedicated songs to them. I really do think Danny and I make the perfect creative team, and I am so proud of how far we have gotten with our project so far. I never thought I could reach this level of contentment in my life, but here I am, and I am thrilled to be shooting for the stars with one of my best friends! I hope you enjoy seeing our creative process as much as I am enjoying living it!
